How Much Mix
Will You Need? Container Fill Guide
The following is provided as a guide. Actual yields will depend on the
container and the filling and compaction techniques. Estimating how
many pots, baskets, pans, plug trays or packs that a given mix volume
will fill requires consideration of several factors:
1. Systems for filling
and handling containers vary widely from grower to grower. Some growers
fill pots and plant by hand. Others may use potting machines of various
makes and models.
2. The dimensions
of a given container will vary by manufacturer. For example, not all
6-inch standard pots are identical!
3. The physical
properties of various growing media give them differing responses to
the effects of handling and compaction. Moisture content also influences
the number of pots filled.
